The japanese as a people are very polite, particularly towards foreigners. An American was spending several months in Japan on business. He had a young Japanese servant who, in accordance with Japanese tradition, was extremely polite and diferential. The American wished to get up very early one morning and told the servant the night before to be sure to wake him up at six o'clock. At six o'clock exactly, the servant entered the American's room quietly and left a message on the table beside the American's bed. At eleven o'clock the American woke up, looked at his watch, and jumped out of the bed. The message on the table said: "Dear Sir, it is exactly six o'clock. Please get up at once".
